Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring a Site Services Engineering Intern in Salem, Virginia at our corporate headquarters. The Site Services Engineering Intern will work at the direction of the Site Innovation Engineer and will learn about Caterpillar machine sizing and application, how to complete a site assessment using VST Pro, and how to utilize productivity tools like VL Productivity and MineStar. Responsibilities will include assisting the Site Services team with many tasks, including site evaluations, site efficiency report outs, customer visits, VL productivity deployments, VST Pro studies, and remote control demos. Seeking candidates with a high School diploma or GED required. Currently enrolled as a full time student in a 4 year engineering degree program.
Requirements for the Site Services Engineering Intern position include:
- Self-starter able to work with limited supervision
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude required.
- Strong written and verbal skills.
- Must be able to read wiring diagrams and follow during the assembly process.
- Proficient using Adobe, Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Proficient in using the Internet to obtain information.
- Must be able to organize, control and archive documentation.
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be willing to travel and stay overnight as necessary.

Physical requirements must be met for the Site Services Engineering Intern job, including frequently sitting for extended periods of time. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
