Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring an Operations Development Manager. The Operations Development Manager is responsible for the execution, development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of company-wide service office standards, parts department standards, lean/5S deployments, contamination control standards, facility brand standards, and to enhance customer experience while supporting the growth of service and parts efficiency and FX. The individual in this position will work to support the further development and execution of Service Office Standards while working through Service Directors, Parts Area Managers, and Store Managers. In addition to Service Office Standards, this position will work with CI and Parts Operations to develop Parts Department Standards and set the execution strategy. As the business shifts to a new ERP system, the ODM will support with testing, training, and rollout of CarterOne with the goal to improve error proofing of new processes to prevent future quality issues. This job will require extensive travel within a territory. Seeking candidates with a minimum of five years operations management and/or process improvement experience. Lean/Six Sigma work experience and certification preferred. Bachelor’s Degree in a Business discipline preferred.
Requirements for the Operations Development Manager include:
- Strong working knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean, Kaizen, and Workout tools, problem solving/root cause analysis and process management.
- Self-starter able to work with limited supervision.
- Must have strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to motivate, influence and gain commitment at all levels of the organization.
- Strong analytical skills required. Able to act as a resource for using statistical methods and data analysis.
- Must be able to take corrective action when results are below target, and act with a sense of urgency to achieve desire results.
- Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Must be able to engage in effective and persuasive discussions on complex topics with top management and other company personnel. Must be able to make presentations to company personnel.
- Open to learn and recommend new systems and operations, and willing to lead the change management within assigned locations.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Must have good attention to detail.
- Strong organization skills with the ability to effectively prioritize (with changing priorities), multi-task, and address issues quickly and professionally.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple competing tasks and demands.
- Must be detail-oriented and able to handle multiple tasks at once. Strong organizational, planning and follow-up skills required.
- Strong communication and presentation skills required. Must possess ability to train, mentor and coach Green Belt team members for successful and timely completion of projects.
- Excellent PC skills with knowledge of Power Point & Excel required; AS/400 SEQUEL & SQL query skills preferred.
- Frequent travel is required – overnight or out town via car or airplane.

Physical requirements must be met for the Operations Development Manager job, including the ability sit or stand for prolonged periods of time. Able to lift, carry and maneuver items up to 20 pounds in weight. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. Starting Compensation Range: $85,500 - $115,500 per year
Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, candidate qualifications, education, geographic location, and other relevant business factors. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance e.g. discretionary incentive programs or non-discretionary incentive plans including overtime.
